News: More Age of Sigmar pictures!

Some more Age of Sigmar pictures is showing up, these are via The One Harlequin Troupe
Tumblr page.

The more I look at the new 'Empire' models the more I dislike the their helmets, It's just to similar to the Sanguinary Guard death masks, and to be honest I never liked those very much. Dunno why GW didn't just went with more Knightlike helmets instead, that way they would at least resemble the old Empire knights a little. As they are now, they don't look like anything from the Old World. which is a shame.

News: First pics of the new Age of Sigmar models are here!

At last, pictures of the new models. I'm stunned, gorgeous models! I got these via @firstautarch at twitter.

Update: So after I have been looking more on these guys I'm a little bit torn. First of all, I love the new models. Both the Sigmarines (this name is spot on) and the Chaos forces of Khorne, but they do look much more like 40k than Warhammer Fantasy to be honest. I thought this was the way GW would go though in terms of looks for the "Empire" or Warriors of Sigmar or whatever they are called. And I do think the round bases is tricking our eyes a lot, not just used to it on Fantasy models. They do however also look much similar to Sanguinary guard of the Blood Angels, but a lot because of the paintjob I think.

So I think we all have to get used to this new Warhammer, but I for one will definitely be buying this Starter box with all these goodies, that's for sure. My old models will stay on squares and be used for 'Warhammer Classic' battles instead, the models just look to much different, at least for the Empire/Humans.

So what does it look like we are getting here then?

Forces of Sigmar

1 Hero on and Demigryph looking monster (this one looks so nice, love it)
1 BSB with and large Icon of Sigmar? (hard to see on the picture but he does look a little sinister)
2 x 5 Soldiers with hammer and shields (basic Sigmarines on 32mm round bases?)
3 Solders with 2-H hammers
3 Soldiers with wings (The wings looks mechanical but it's hard to tell)

Warriors of Khorne

1 Hero on large base (Can't tell the size of the base here, 40 mm?)
1 BSB with a large Icon of Khorne
2 x 10 Lightly armored Warriors/Marauders? (it looks like one of the groups have command as well)
5 Heavily armored Warriors/Chosen? with axes
1 Beast on an oval base and handler on a separate round base (feels a little like an Helbrute for Fantasy)

I'm still a little chocked by all this to be honest. Eager to see more and hear more about the rules.

Age of Sigmar: Latest rumors

We grab at every little bit of info now because we still don't know much about Age of Sigmar/9th ed or not etc.

Don't have anything new I'm afraid but here are the latest stuff,

Age of Sigmar box contents

via Steve the Warboss
1x Empire General on Griffin
5x Knights of Sigmar
10x State Troops with Spears
10x State Troops with Muskets

1x Lord of Khorne on Daemonsteed
5x Chaos Knights
10x Chaos Warriors

-No small Rulebook
-Full rules for all Models
-Small Intro of the Fluff (Humans only)
-5 Scenarios to introduce Players
-Text is very childfriendly writen

This rumour don't sound too off contentwise, but could be just an educated guess from Steve (someone among the rumormongers that is much of a hit or miss when coming to rumors if I recall it correctly)

Next one is from Faet212.

We have some solid information now that looks like it was accidentally put onto the German Games Workshop website. The best part is that we have the screenshots that reveal that the Age of Sigmar will come with Free Rules.

I have checked the website, and this is no longer there, or at least that I could find.

Please take this as a rumor right now, until at least someone can either find it or verify it. I have closely checked the images and the site, and it all seems to line up.

The page reads like this......
"Contained within this free download is the core ruleset needed in order to begin your own adventures within the Age of Sigmar. This four-page PDF is yours to keep, print out and play with, and when combined with a Warscroll Compendium or two-available below, also totally free- is everything you need to know. Grab it, read it, and begin playing right away!"

Here are the images sent in by a reader on Faeit 212
A member of our gaming group send a screengrab of the German webstore with
a pod of Macragge Blue labled as Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Rules (PDF).

Pictures found here.

This sounds plausible as well, GW want's as many people as possible to try out the new game, free rules is great for that. They can bring out a nice Rulebook, with more fluff, scenarios etc. and people can buy that if they want (and if people get's into the game most probably will) or just play with the free rules. This isn't something totally new to GW, they had all the specialist games rule books in free pdfs for a long time, like Mordheim and Inquisitor, but those where on the other hand dead games.

That's it for now, if anyone know more any more rumors please share in the comments, I'm very interested in everything 'Age of Sigmar' right now.

News: Age of Sigmar in the next White Dwarf (pictures)

Nothing new really when it comes to pictures of models so far but hey, it's a life sign from Warhammer in White Dwarf.

Pics is from Captain Citadel over at this thread on Spikey Bits forum.

So...

Interersting bit, The lightning strikes, that is probably Sigmar who now is the Incarnate of Heavens and can shoot lightning and stuff. The rule of Chaos breaks, this probably tells us Chaos is not as dominant as it has been in Warhammer World. I think this is great, I'm a little tired of the world is going under soon doom and gloom ala Sauron of LOTR, they should still be a huge threat of course but not as prominent I think. The Age of Sigmar begins! Well, we all know it, not just really what it means. Hopefully more info soon.

Sadly not a lot of info about Age of Sigmar.... yet. Here's mostly of what has been and not so much what to come, but I think we will see a lot more of that in the next issue... and 4th of July is soon here.

Miniature Monday: Bauhaus Venusian Ranger

Not a lot of of posts lately I'm afraid. Must be better on this, but here's my painted model for this Miniature Monday. A test model of the first of the new Venusian Rangers.

I actually painted this one up a little different from the old ones. I first went with a red inside of the cloak like the more classic artworks. But it looked to different from from the rest of my Bauhaus force and I also had painted more camo at this point so I needed some more blue to tie it in with rest.

So I did this, please tell me what you think.

Warhammer Fantasy on round bases - A test

As the title says, I wanted to try to see how some WHFB miniatures looks on rounds, easy as that. I took these miniatures because I think if Warhammer is going to round bases, this would be the right size for these. We have seen some bases from Games Day like some more oval ones for cavarly for example but I don't have nay of those so I made it easy and just tried some infantry on normal 25mm round bases. And here's the result.

First up is a Hammerer, this one probably looks the best on a round base. I can see a unit of these either as they are or on a movement tray for round bases a la LOTR. As an individual model, round bases do look better I think.

My Empire army belonging to the now blown up Ostermark (with the rest of the Warhammer World) will probably not be rebased to rounds. I will probably keep it as an classic WHFB army instead and make a new Empire army for Age of Sigmar. But I wanted to try a round on my BSB model anyway. It's actually feels more stable (the torso and up is metal).

Last model, an really old Empire plastic Halberdier. The round bases does not look as good on static posed models I think, much better on more dynamic poses. Still looks nice though, not a huge difference.

All in all I like the look of rounds, but that's for pure aesthetics, let's see how the rules and what not is in store for us.

The Age of Sigmar is coming!

Winter is com... eh wait Age of Sigmar is coming! Yeah I know not the best teaser video I've seen but hey it's an official statement showing us that Warhammer is still alive! In some kind or another anyway.

I have been really quiet about this here on the blog, because there have just been to many different rumors out there and no official word whatsoever since we read the last 'End Times' book Archaon that the Warhammer World is no more. Since then I have checked out the rumors going on alongside all the wish listing but I just couldn't imagine what was true and really in what direction Warhammer is going.

I still wont speculate what Age of Sigmar is, some say it's the next starter set for 9th ed Warhammer, some rumors say it's a standalone boardgame type of game like Space Hulk or the latest Execution Force. Whatever it is I will buy it, non the less. Many people is giving up on Warhammer Fantasy because of the End Times, rumors of 9th being a skirmish game, going to round bases etc. But i won't give up on Warhammer just yet, it was my gateway into war gaming and this lovely hobby and even though I loved the setting, I also understand why some think a total reset was necessary.

So went from angry and sad because the world and setting I loved was no more to getting quite excited to see in what direction Warhammer is going and how the new models will look. I still have my old models, and they aren't going anywhere. Heck I can still play 8th ed If I find some other who also want to play Warhammer "Classic" instead of this new game.

But I'm more eager to see how the new game, the new models and world is. Sometimes a fresh start is quite freshening, even on round bases....

Hope to see more teasers, reliable rumors or even pictures on what is coming for Warhammer Fantasy really soon!

Unboxing Warzone: Resurrection - Imperial Mourning Wolves

The fierce female warriors known as Mourning Wolves originate from all walks of Imperial life. School teachers, mothers, accountants, lawyers, and just about every other profession or previous vocation one can imagine. They all have one thing in common though; each and every one has lost someone very dear to them to war with the other megacorporations or the Dark Legion. The vast majority of them are war widows, but some have lost their father, a sibling or child and each has vowed to exact revenge on those responsible. Each woman wears very little in the way of armour or mail protection, opting for a simple form-fitting garment of ballistic-resistant leather, allowing them a greater range of movement and flexibility, which they use as a near perfect alternative to the cumbersome armour of the male wolves.

The Mourning Wolves seem to be a superstitious bunch, often consulting the Pathfinders as to their future and carrying many tokens, amulets and talismans. In truth, such keepsakes are kept for melancholy, to remind themselves of those they have lost, empowering them to focus their furore against those that have wronged them. They consult the Pathfinders with a hope that the near-seers will predict their journey’s end and their reunion with their lost. Preparation for war is a ritualistic process, involving bathing, body painting and marking themselves with elaborate druidic spirals and animals in woad, ensuring they look their best for when they meet their love.

They paint their faces in a ghostly white death
mask to prepare their souls for the journey to the other side. Each pack is led by a Matron, who not only guides the women in battle, but also serves as their spiritual advisor, helping the younger Wolves cope with the loss that has brought them to the order. Many of the Matrons form close bonds with their pack, seeing them as surrogate sisters or daughters. It is they that hold the pack together, averting it from the self-destructive spiral it would otherwise inevitably enter. The Matron is responsible for guiding the ladies down their final path when the time comes and ensuring their talismans and carved names are added to the walls of the Cave of the Mother Wolf on Ganymede. In the unusual situation where the entire pack, matron included, make their final journey together, the she wolf mother superior herself will bless the final journey and engrave the cave. In battle, the white faced Mourning Wolves howl as they charge their foes, seemingly heedless of danger or death.

Many do not fear their end, choosing instead to stare it in the face, knowing that if they should perish, they will once again be embraced by their lost love. They carry a pair of signature weapons which they use to lethal effect as they spin, whirl and misstep their foe; working as tornados of destruction to obliterate any who cross their path. The first of their characteristic weapons, the Tangle Chain, a set of weighted barbed links made of hardened steel. The Mourning Wolves use them to whip, distract, unbalance and entangle their opponents before enacting the deathblow with their second weapon, the trident Claws of the Wolf, which is used to slash open their enemy’s neck or bowels and leave them to bleed out.

From Prodos Shop

Here's the unboxing of the militant widows of the Imperial Corporation, these girls is a support choice for an Imperial Wolfbane army, and one of the more distinct looking units in the game. So... what's in the box?

All the things you get, how to assemble the models is on the back of the front cover. Five 30mm lipped bases, one stat card and the actual models on two sprues.

Here's how they look on the sprue. Some of the claws where a little bent, but was easily solved using hot water/cold water to straighten them up.

Lovely details as always but still keeping the uniforms quite simple.

Some arms fit better with certain models which are marked out with letters in the armpit joints. Arm 'A' goes best with body 'A' etc.

You get one arm combination for each member of the squad accept that you also get one arm with the  'Howler' Grenade Launcher.

Front of the stat card, as you can see this is clearly a CC unit, with one model able to be upgraded to have the Grenade Launcher.

This is a fairly inexpensive unit and does not have a lot of special rules, which is kind of nice really.

Here we have the girls assembled and ready for some paint. Really nice details as Iv'e said, and I also like the dynamic poses. The claws are so small and delicate but are straight and without any deformities.

Nice crisp details, but nothing is overdone.
Conclusion: Lovely unit to put together, it looks really great and I'm longing to put them out on the battlefield (although I probably need many more, a unit of five without upgrades is just 55 Pts. ) All in all, great kit. Of course more variations with equipment and what not would be nice but it's also nice to have some basic troops without a lot of options and special rules, that are just there as an cheap alternative... something Imperial needed.
