Current Projects: Orc WIP:s

A little update of what I'm doing at the moment. And it's not Dreadfleet this time, not much painting yet but I doing some GS and glueing work. First up is the guy I currently painting, a shaman on boar. The shaman is the old Wurzagh model with a new boar that Iv'e converted a little with green stuff and Savage Orc bitz.

Next up is my BSB, now more looking like an ordinary Orc BSB but it is supposed to be an Black Orc BSB, have done some Green Stuff work to make him look more armoured but I need some more armour on the legs I think. But I think it will turn out quite nice.

Next up is just a boar ridden Orc Big boss, which is supposed to maybe babysit a unit of Trolls in the future. Not much done to it more than kit bashing, will maybe add some more stuff. And lastly some more Savage Orcs which will up the unit to twenty three savage orcs, and then there's only seven left before I'm done with my first goal for that unit of thirty fully painted minis. Hopefully not that far in the future.

Dreadfleet: Swordfish finished!

After many painting hours and many gaming hours it's finally finished. I went with the same paint scheme as the original one in WD and pretty much followed the little painting tutorial found there. It was really fun to paint the ship, but a lot harder and more time consuming than I thought. I think some of the other are easier to paint though. Anyway here it is, will probably take a little break from Dreadfleet and paint some more Orcs or an island maybe, will try to make more updates this week. If I can drag myself from Arkham City :P.

Batman: Arkham City getting in the way

Was hoping to finish painting the 'Swordfish' but earlier today my Collectors Ed. of Batman: Arkham City arrived. So have been playing it all day when I got home from work, what a great game! So much you can do from the start, it was almost overwhelming and I've forgotten the controlls as I haven't played Arkham Asylum in quite a while.

Anyway, that's the reason I haven't painted today and it will probably result in less painting hours this weekend, but will finish the ship as soon as I have a break from the game and my two girls. By the way, did I say it was a f"#?"+! great game? If you haven't played it or wasn't going to, give it a try or play Arkham Asylum first. You won't regret it.

A little strange box, and not very fond of not getting a real gamecase with it. But the figurine looks really nice.

Dreadfleet: My Swordfish Sneak peek

As you may have seen on my Twitter I haven't been able to post much lately and I haven't been able to paint much either. But I have been painting the 'Swordfish' and was hoping to have it done by today, unfortunately I didn't make it. So you'll have to do with some WIP photos of the ship and I will hopefully be done by tomorrow.

The ship was fun to paint, really something else to what I'm used to paint. But it takes quite some time, and I will probably be a little faster with the next ship.

Dreadfleet Pt. 1: Unboxing

So at last I got my box with Dreadfleet. I know most of you have probably already seen a lot of unboxings with this box but I decided I wanted to do one anyway, and write down some of my first impressions.

Box art is great, the rulebook and the artwork in there looks great as well. The details and stuff on the ships, islands etc. are amazing. Really like the gaming mat as well, was a little bit unsure of this beforehand but it looks great and have a lot of little nice details, also if the mat isn't totally flat, the waves looks even more realistic.

The box is expensive, but you do get a lot of stuff in it. Even little plastic bags which I haven't figured out what they are for, probably to protect ships for transports or something.

As you can see on the sprue's, there's a lot of stuff. Markers and stuff for gaming, islands, monsters, little ships, large ships etc. And all of it have a lot of character and looks beautiful, and I feel really excited to start and build and paint all of them. Don't know what I want to paint first though, anyone have suggestions?

Will post more of my impressions on Dreadfleet as soon as I discover them

WIP:s A new Mangler squig

I know that the work with the Mangler Squigs are a really slow going process, I have noticed that when you have small children you have much less time to paint. But to try to sculpt a whole model, there's almost no time at all. I'm still a beginner when it comes to working with Green stuff, and it takes a lot of time when I try to sculpt something and when you're always interrupted it takes even more time. Okay now I'm done with all complainants, on to the pictures.

The base colours are done, need some shading and stuff. Oh and a Night Goblin riding it! Still looking into how I'm going to do. Also the base is pretty much finished.

Here's the other Mangler Squig, a little smaller as I thought the first one got a little bit to big. And I went with horns on this one and less showing his teeth, think it will work out nice when it's finished.

That's all for now, tell me what you think and if you have any tips regarding the Night Goblins like which models to use etc. Please tell me.

Rumour Roundup: Wh40k and WHFB

Haven't been painting much lately and my Dreadfleet box haven't showed up yet, but hopefully it will arrive this week at least. Anyway, there are many rumours at the moment and I thought I write a little about some of them here.

First up, Wh40. Found this rumour on Bell of lost souls. Here's a liittle snippet:

So we've been hearing for months now that the Dark Angels may be in the new Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition boxed set (said to be paired off against the Chaos Marines). But what needs fixing the most?

Comment: W00t, Dark Angels may be in the new 6th ed boxed set?! Dark Angels are my favourite chapter, and if this is true it's great and really makes me more interested in 40k again. In the post I linked to the author '' talks about what needs most fixing in the DA codex and I agree with pretty much all of it. There's to much HtH combat oriented SM armies out there all ready and to make DA a more unique chapter would be to make it an ranged combat orientated army, this also fit perfectly with the fluff. I say more Plasma for the Dark Angels like they used to be.

Yeah I know, this is not Dark Angels but I have repainted all of my DA:s to GotC. So a DA successor chapter had to do.

And then there's some juicy rumours for WHFB as well. First one is taken from this thread on Warseer, head over there for more info and some usual wish listing.

It seems that even though winter is fast approaching, birds are still singing:

I can't comment on how solid these are. But it's not the first - and probably not the last - I've heard over the last few weeks. It seems to me like the Empire is not too far away, meaning somewhere in the next six months.

Something more: the knight mentioned are supposedly not replacements of the current knights, but demi-gryph knights. See Warhammer Forge for reference.

Something more from 75hastings69, thanks too:

And another birdy sings:

Comment: Would LOVE to get some new shiny things for my Empire. A dual kit of some kind with a War Altar I think is a given as pretty much everyone uses them, and I think it will look awesome. As soon as I saw the Demi gryphon I thought that it would look really cool with a unit of them in an Empire army, really hope this is true even though I also really want new Knights! There's also tanks about, ogres, halflings, kislevites, Imperial Dwarf among other stuff and would love to get some of these Imperials back in the army where they belong.

I have been thinking about pimping my old War Altar ride but if there's a new War Altar kit on the horizon I may just wait for that.

Maybe we will see this in units in future Empire armies, I hope so. Pic taken from Warhammer Forge.

Next up is a rumour from Harry and Hastings on Warseer two very potent rumour posters, check out the rest of the thread here.

75hastings69 has posted to say Blood Bowl is coming next year so that will be in 2012 for the 25th anniversary.

He also said this

For those who don't know Hastings rumours are 99% fact.

So all we know so far is four nice new plastic teams, a new pitch and not much change to the rules.

Exactly what the four teams are has not been posted.
If the pitch is card, "astrogranite", plastic or cloth like the new Dread fleet also remains a mystery.

I will try to keep this first post updated with new rumours BUT ...
This release is still a good way off so don't be expecting lots of new information any time soon.

Comment: W00t!? A new Blood Bowl game is awesome! Ok I haven't really played the current edition yet, but I want to. And the big thing that is putting me off is the really old models and this would be solved with a new game. Really hope they supports it after they they release the Boxed Game, with new teams and stuff.

Next up is some information regarding Vampire Counts, and as it looks right now on Warseer the next three fantasy armies will be VC, Empire and Dwarfs. My first thought; great I collect all of those armies, second thought; my wallet wont be happy. Anyway here's some rumours about VC, this text is taken from the first thread on the Warseer forums once again. It's the author of the thread Huan Qu'itt who summarizes the rumours in thread like this:

- VC are next army book to be released (Harry, 75hastings69), in january (ihavetoomuchminis)
- new unit "flesh golems" - something like a mix of large ghoul and zombie with a lot of stitches (Harry, 75hastings69, ihavetoomuchminis)
- new plastic black coach mini (Harry), dual kit (ihavetoomuchminis)
- new krell and female vampire minis (75hastings69)
- and some old rumour concerning new plastic black knights - still waiting to be confirmed

credits for all rumours go to
Harry, 75hastings69, ihavetoomuchminis and Mirbeau. Thanks guys!

Comment: Looks nice, don't think the VC book needs attention this soon (compared to some other armies) but it's always great with some new stuff. Plastic Black Coach, great and needed. The old one looks good but from I heard it's a pain in the ass to assemble. And Flesh Golems?! Can look awesome, and they can look strange I think. Hoping for something like Abominations in Warcraft III. There's also some talk about taking Necromancer Lords again, I really hope so, I'm not so much into Vampires but like undead stuff :P.

A new Warhammer Forge Wight King BSB, looks awesome. Pic taken from this thread on Warseer.

Well that's all for now, hopefully I will make these Rumour Roundups more often as there's much stuff going on in the HQ of Games Workshop.

Review: White Dwarf 382

This issue can be summed up with one word: Dreadfleet. So if you're like me and really excited that the new game is released this weekend and want to know more about then you're in for a treat. If not, then this issue probably won't be your cup of tea. There's a whole lot of information about the game, a battle report, an introduction to the game, some information about the story and all the ships that are in the game.

There's also simple but really great painting tutorials for pretty much every little piece in the game which is really great. As you may have noticed, I'm really excited for this game and it is on it's way to and I will probably get it on Tuesday. I like that it is a another scale than the 28mm I normally paint and it is going to be really fun to paint these extremely detailed and characterful models.

Anyway on with the review. As I wrote, there's not a lot of other stuff in this WD. But they are showing some new hobby tools, especially suited for the new finecast models but for the plastic and metal ones as well. The most interesting here is a new Green stuff in liquid form, can be very useful indeed. Then there's some more stuff for Ogre Kingdoms including rules for using Thundertusks, Mournfangs and Stonehorns in Storm of Magic. Nice that they do additions to the Storm of Magic rules. There are a couple of pages with Sisters of Battle and that's all the 40k stuff there is in this issue, will probably be a lot more when Necrons arrive in Necrovember.

That's all for now, I really liked this issue but like I wrote earlier that's because I'm really interested in Dreadfleet. And if you aren't already, then I promise you that this months WD will make you interested.

WD 382 gets 4/5
