Painting Challenge 2013: May & June

Yeah.... I missed to to one Painting Challenge post, well for my defence it didn't happen much that month and at least now the June post comes a little bit earlier. Anyway here's May and June.

May

WoC
The model that netted me most point the past two months
2 Nurgle Chaos Warriors Champ, Standard = 52 Pts
1 Tzeentch Chaos Warrior = 16 Pts

Imperial Guard

1 Veteran Sergeant - Don't know actually is it 14? or just 7?

WZR: Bauhaus
1 Ducal Militia (now used as Hussars) 16 Pts (new WZR rules)

Total this month: Pts 98

Not many minis painted and not many point gained, a bad month but there always are, are many times you have painted a lot more but not finished much, this is the case this month I hope ^^

June
Empire
Shadow Wizard lvl 2 = 100 Pts

WZR: Bauhaus
1 Squad Commander = 16 Pts (new Hussar rules)

Total this month: 116 Pts

So not much better this time, well I went with the middle road for the Shadow Wizard as an lvl 2 as that's probably the lvl I wanna use him as, or as a Wizard Lord. Pretty much the same as the month before though with much work done but not much completed, hopefully this will show in the next update in the Painting Challange.

Miniature Monday Weekly Update

I continue with the stuff I painted last week and the first batch of models was finished a couple of days ago with the finished Archer unit. I'm also slowly shifting focus a little more to my WoC again with some Warzone models thrown into the mix as well.

Well on to the list of things Iv'e done then

Empire
Apart from the finished Archer unit I have been starting to finish up the painting on eight Flagellants, these are not front rank material but will be mixed in the unit I already have, they still need some more Highlights and proper bases though.

I have also dipped two Greatswords which is on their way to completion as well as two Halfing crew for my Hot Pot (Helstorm Rocket Battery count as) also more Halfings are on the way. That's all for Empire atm, my idea is to finish all these before I start to work on any new or other Empire models, including the Hurricanum which is on hold at the moment.

Warriors of Chaos
After the Archers where completed I have been working hard to finish painting my BSB and my Gorebeast Chariot. There are still lot of work to do but I think that the BSB will be the next model I finish painting, and I also find it really fun to paint up the Gorebeast, which I have decided to do in my blue Nurgle colours.

Bauhaus
Soon finished with one more Ducal Militia with and HMG hopefully this will be the colourscheme I'm going with.

I only have one pic to show you today I'm afraid. The battery for the camera died on me and I don't have any spare :/ So a pic of the Gorebeast will have to do for now.

Empire: Archer unit w/ skirmish movement tray finished

Much much work to paint up these measly 70 Pts, not just that you have to paint all the archers. If you want a nice movement tray you have do a special one that works with the skirmish rule, which I had to do of course (not that hard actually). So now they are finally finished, the first five where done long ago so it was just the final five I needed to paint up, and the movement tray of course, which I'm probably most happy with actually.

Please tell me what you think, but you don't have to remind that the purple is different between the old models and the new. I will change the old ones in due time, but not right now :)

The gang together
The new boys in town
From above, as you can see the Garden of Morr theme continues
Bottom is in metal so I will magnetize the bases for the archers so they don't fall of the tray.

Review: White Dwarf July 2013

Lately I have always tried to minimise the text in the WD reviews just because it feels like I'm repeating myself quite a lot. This don't always work as intended though because if I always explain the different segments and what not it will require quite a lot of text. So in this one I will try a little bit different format, pretty much explaining what it is about mostly, then the best stuff and the bad stuff and a conclusion in the end. Hopefully you guys who read this will still enjoy it and maybe even think it easier to read trough. So on to the review shall we?

The new releases
Of course it's this months release that is in focus, and I think all of you know about that by know. It's Wh40k Apocalypse for 6th ed. I'm not really impressed by the releases though, we get an terrain and fortification piece in the form of the Aquila Strongpoint, the Apocalypse book with both an Gamer's Ed and Collector's Ed. Some new masters for Space Marines and of course the big ones all is talking about the Khorne Lord of Skulls and Necron Tesseract Vault . They are impressive kits but I don't really fancy them much myself even if I'm sure many do. We also get some stuff for The Hobbit, BL books and the usual stuff.

Other than that and some other things this issue is about Apocalypse. The Battle Report is a massive one and they even took some bigger pictures showing the battlefield for us, even an second centrefold showing us the whole board and all the models (Dark Angels and Blood Angels vs. Chaos Space Marines and Necrons).

There's also a Article called 'The road to Apocalypse' where they show us what the WD team has been doing to get ready for some big Apocalypse battles. Of course we also get some Painting tips on how to paint Khorne Lord of Skulls,Tesseract Voult and the Aquila Strongpoint in Paint Splatter which is okey but an bigger more detailed Tutorials would have been nice for at least one of them.

The Good
I'm not overly excited for Apocalypse I must confess so my highlights are the other bits in this issue, for example I found the Warriors of Chaos by Jaime Forster which is this Army of the Month really inspiring. Really nice paint job and an truly big and awesome looking army. We also get some painting tips on how he painted his Warriors which is nice.

Another thing I like and have liked since it started is the War Diary where people are preparing and painting armies for Armies on Parade 2013, my favourite is of course Dan Harden's Ostermark where he among other things paints up a Death Heads regiment (from Empire Uniforms and Heraldry) which is looking really nice.

There's also a new release from Forgeworld which I'm quite excited about, it's an Contemptor Dreadnought for the Minotaurs Chapter, it looks awesome and will be one of the things I will be buying next time I make an order from Forgeworld.

The Bad
Some articles isn't here in this issue like Blanchitsu, and sure it was pretty much the same all the time but I which they could do something with this, like for example doing Mordheim Warbands one month, etc. Pretty sure this won't happen though as it seems GW just want to forget all those lovely Specialist Games. Other than that there really isn't something particular that is bad, but the overall feeling of this issue is that is isn't that interesting, it's sure doesn't make me interested in Apocalypse.

Conclusion
It's not bad as I said but it isn't that interesting either. I don't know why really maybe because the main releases was not my cup of tea. Also I want to see rules, fluff and the other bits that are missing since the change of WD format. Something that make the magazine worth buying, hopefully we will see some of this in future but we might have to wait.

Warzone: Bahaus Kommando Sergeant finished

At long last this little bugger is finished! Well he has been for some time actually it's just that I haven't been completely satisfied with the result, and I must say still aren't. Most of him looks good but in some angles the eyes looks weird and I think I have to change that, won't do it now though because I have to take a break from him and until then consider him finished.

I really like these models and the Sergeant in particular, can't wait until I have the full unit painted up. As always C & C is always welcome!

Miniature Monday Weekly Update

The past week I have actually painted quite a lot, but not really finished anything yet. And the stuff I have been doing is pretty much the same as in previus Mini Monday, but much of it is nearing completion. So here it goes.

Empire
I bought my self a new can of Army Painter Quickshade, well actually two. One Dark tone and one with strong tone that I wanted to try out. I'm haven't used this painting method in a while and I will pretty much only do on miniatures that I want to paint up and get finished fast as well as the troops I know works out good with it, like my Orcs & Goblins, some of my Empire troopers and so on.

So I'm pretty much done with four new Archers, it was five but I somehow lost the body of one of the Archers when I was shaking of excess Quickshade, well he loosened from the base which I hold and I throw away the whole model, I found the head, arrows and right arm holding the bow but the rest is just gone :S So I have to paint up a new body for him.

I have also continued painting up Halflings, the crew for my Hot Pot is soon finished and the first of the Archers too. One of the reasons for the going with Quickshade again though is to have it on metal models, this because it prevents chipping very nicely. And I still have a lot of metal models I really want to paint and some of these is my Flagellants which is a unit I want to upgrade to 40 men strong, I have painted up six new ones but there is still some more work on these, even if they will be in the back rows of the unit.

Warriors of Chaos
I had a little break from them but I got an sudden urge to finish my BSB on a demonic mount so I started to paint him again yesterday. I also got some new ideas regarding my Sorc Lord on Disc and Lord on Disc so I fiddled a little with them as well. Two other things I want to finish up is my Gorebeast Chariot and the first Skullchrusher.

So not much that is finished but much more will be in the coming days.
