Review: Kromlech Khoot'ach Plague Reaper

I got some sweet stuff from Kromlech and among them one of their full Miniature kits, Khoot'ach Plague Reaper. So before I paint him up I thought I'll give a little unboxing/review of the kit as well as suggestions as to what to use him as and size comparisons.

So when opening the box you will see all the parts you get, the main body with torso, head, legs and arms and then two separate hands one holding a axe and one holding half a corpse. And of course you get a base and it's a 40 mm round base as used for Terminators etc. in 40k, a GW 40mm is just slightly higher than this one.

So because of most of the model is a single piece it's harder to customize it's pose and what not. I don't see this as a huge problem though as you will probably use him as a hero or similar and just one in an army. Also the pose it has is cool as it is.

Putting it together was no problem except that I unfortunately managed to break the top half of the axe, and that thing was a paint to glue together again for some reason. Other than It was no problem using Super Glue as I normally do with resin models.

The model have nice details but nothing over the top, as you can see above the model is about the same height as an GW Ogre but slimmer and more proportionate. I will paint this one up as fast as I can and will probably use it as an Chaos Ogre champion with Mark of Nurgle. Other nice options for this guy is as an unit filler or Chaos Ogryns or even an 40k Hero on a 40mm base.

So as an conclusion, I really like how the model looks and it was easy to assemble a little minus for being hard to glue if a part has broke off and for not having a square base in the package as well. Not a huge problem but I will use him on a square base and therefore I also need a 40mm Square base, luckely I have quite a few lying around so not a problem.

Other than that I can really recommend the model and I think that the $17.99 is a fair price for it, especially if you are going with a Nurgle theme on your Wh40k/Whfb army. Really looking forward painting him up.

Miniature Monday 'Mutalith Vortex Beast'

Got several things to show you in this Mini Monday post, and it's still WoC I'm currently working on even If I might start to paint up some more Empire to  models very soon.

First of all I have worked on painting up two more Skullcrushers, and they take some time to paint up actually. As you can see I have some more things to do on them, but they are coming along nicely and the most time consuming parts is finished already. I will try finish these up this week if I can keep my hands from painting the new project.

And the new project is as it says in the title, the Mutalith Vortex Beast. I loved this model as soon as I first saw it but I haven't come around to paint it up yet as I focused on models I thought I would use more in games.

But I discovered a thread over at The Chamber of the Everchosen forum where a member called Tremendous is showing his army and also make battle reports and put them up on Youtube (found here: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqMoElPxw8LbRlG-niGcStA ). And well he uses the Vortex BEAST in every game and he is actually working really good in his list, and he sounds like a really fun choice to use so I just needed to paint him up.

As you can see not much done with him yet, but I actually used the Citadel Spray Gun to paint the blue (colours Necron Abyss 80 % Regal Blue 20 % and then Water) over a white undercoat. And it worked out really nice, I first sprayed a thin coat and then painted on one more coat with the same thin watered down colour and wiped away the paint on the upper parts with a sponge. I then washed with Nuln Oil and used the sponge technique again. So a lot more to do on him but so far I'm really happy with the result.

And for last I have one thing that is finished and that is my fully magnetized movement tray for the Nurgle Warriors, so then I just need three more Warriors and that unit is complete.

That is all for now, hope these posts is somewhat interesting to you as I find it to be a great motivator for me to complete my Painting projects and start new ones, just to have something new to show you here. Any tips or suggestions how to improve or just any input from you who read this is more than welcome.

Warzone: Q & A with Mark Rapson from Prodos Games

Me and two fellow WZ:R bloggers (http://ishisimperium.blogspot.com and http://moonshriek.blogg.se) was tasked with making some questions to Mark Rapson from Prodos games, the company giving us the new Warzone: Ressurection. So big thanks to Mark for answering these questions.

Could you give us a brief overview on what Warzone is?

Warzone Resurrection is a tabletop miniatures (28mm scale) skirmish game, set in the Mutant Chronicles dark SciFi Future.

The richly visualised Mutant Chronicles dark future has been exciting gamers and science fiction fans all over the world for 20 years.

The Solar System is besieged by abominations from the dark beyond, infernal hybrids of undead alien flesh brought into existence by the Dark Symmetry. Mankind is divided into five rival Megacorporations concerned only with profit and territory as they tear the inner worlds apart in bitter, internecine war. United in faith under the Brotherhood, Mankind may yet prevail – divided, they shall surely fall as the Dark Legion sweeps all before it.

What do you like the most with the IP and setting of Mutant Chronicles, what got you hooked?

So I am a newish recruit to the MC and WZ world, first hearing and reading about it 3 or 4 years ago. Back then, before WZR was anything more than a twinkle in our eyes, I fell in love with the fluff, the art and the general concept. I picked up a few miniatures, but vacuumed up any literature I could find. Now I have nearly all literature published in the MC world and all the Warzone stuff. I love it.

Whats his favourite model/unit in WZR overall. Fluffwise, looks, rules etc?

This is a very hard question. So looks wise I love the Ronin and Meka. I personally thing the product of the concept artists and renderers for the Meka is sublime. The pinnacle of design and a perfect example of Mishima and the reimagining of Mishima for WZR. Rules wise I really like the Blink and Power Blink of the Armoured Chasseurs, a great concept. I also think the Build your own hero and vehicle rules a great, simple but brilliant and in the case of the vehicle rules, so much more realistic that the vehicle rules for other game systems. And fluffwise, I like the new characters, Hamilkar, Henery Thomas, the Necrobeast and Angelika. I am also very pleased with the new Brotherhood squad.

What single thing about WZR do you think will attract most new players? (Rules, the models, IP etc.).

I think the models first of all, they are the window to the WZ world, but the fluff and imagery will keep them in. The rules, missions and narrative will keep people coming back for more.

The Fact you can make your own Hero is very appealing to me do you plan on releasing multipart boxes for each faction to create your own hero?

Many things are in the pipeline, this included. When they will arrive and in what form is yet to be seen, but yes. And let’s not forget that its possible to kitbash WZR models so Im really looking forward to seeing everyones conversions.

When do you think we will get our hands on Imperial and the next DL wave?

Well we have 10 new units in the current book, at least 1 for each faction first, but I think 2014 is a very good estimation.

Is there anything you learnt from doing the Kickstarter that you would change if you could go back?

Not really, it was a rollercoaster, we had our ups and downs, and more than our fair share of trolls, but it exceeded all expectation.

Do you plan on diversifying in the future into other sectors of the hobby market say Terrain or Paints either solely or with a partner?

Prodos is a very ambitious company and as such I am certain what we have now (and set for the next year) is just the tip of the iceberg.

Rumours: Dark Elves in October!

So no Inquisition game or Blood Bowl in October it seems, a little sad. I would have liked to see any of those games being true. But it looks like we will get Dark Elves instead, and they look awesome according to the source. It also looks like they will get a ton of new plastic kits, which is needed I can agree but it almost seems to good to be true, as no new release has gotten so much new stuff lately.

This info comes via 40k Radio's facebook page.

NEW RUMORS for Warhammer Fantasy! My "source" has sent me pictures of the new Dark Elf release. The Dark Elves will be out in October with a slew of new models:
1) NEW Plastic Dark Elf Warrior Box(Makes Spearmen, swordsmen, & crossbowmen)
2) NEW PLastic Dark Riders/Warlocks
3) NEW Plastic Blackguard/Executioners
4) NEW Plastic Coldone Chariot/Scroungerunner(Pulled by horses)
5) NEW Plastic Cauldron of Blood/Blood Throne(This model is AMAZING)
6) NEW Plastic Hydra/Kraken
7) NEW Plastic Witch Elf box
This will be a huge release and the Dark Elves will be the best looking Fantasy army, IMHO. These models are breathe taking and Dark Elf f
ans will have their minds blown!

Full WoC army shot!

I totally forgot to post the Miniature Monday Weekly Update yesterday, but my thought where to post some pictures  of the full Warriors of Chaos army as it looks right now. It's not a huge army but at least it starts to look like one, and as WoC is a high cost army I can easily make an 2400-2500 pts list (and even more) out of it.

I need to add more stuff to it though, and first of all I want to finish the incomplete units. The Nurgle warriors just need three more soldiers and I'm in the process of painting up two more Skullchrushers. Then I want to start on my Chaos Troll unit and Throgg, along with an Disc Lord and a Disc Sorc lord, and then I have a whole lot of more models to paint up. It is a really fun army to paint up though, and WoC really opens up the conversion possibilities. So expect me to continue working on them for quite some time.

WoC: A blue Skullchrusher!

Khorne players weep as I paint my Skullchrushers blue instead of red! If you have followed this blog a little in the past you may know that I'm trying to do a mixed mark WoC army but I want most of it to be blue. Which we all know is a Tzeentch colour, and that will also be the main deity for the army even if I mix in more and more Nurgle for some reason :O.

Anyhow Nurgle was quite easy to think out how to achieve this, but Khorne was harder and the main reason I haven't finished painting any of them for so long. You can see the result below and I went with having mostly blue but quite a lot of metal (which had a red glaze over it as well) and Brass of course. I also went with the fiery theme for both shield (the unit will be called Burning Skulls or something) and the ensorcelled weapon. So what do you think?

First look: September White Dwarf Pics

We have all seen most of these already, at least the the Space Marines. But here's some first look pictures anyway of both the Space Marines and some other interesting bits. I got the WD just some minutes ago so I have just flipped though it so far, but it looks interesting, with a lot of Space Marine goodies.
