Miniature Monday: Realmgate

I have finished the first of the realmgates you get in the box. Went with a glowing magical effect, did most of it with the airbrush and in these cases it really speeds things up and it's hard to get these effects like the osl without one.

Quick tutorial on the glowing effect then. Airbrushed on Vallejo Signal blue, then Vallejo French blue, I then went with Vallejo Sky Blue focusing on the middle and fading out. I then glazed the whole thing with Guilliman Blue. I then drybrushed with Sky Blue again focusing on the middle and the most raised areas.

The I went on the the airbrush again focusing mostly on the middle and where I wanted to smooth up transitions. I then airbrushed with Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh and only in the middle and some of the raised areas. For last I did some edge highlights pretty much in the middle and out with pure Pallid Wych Flesh.

I'm still new to these kind of effects but I really like how this turned out. Next one will be more evil looking though ^^.

Miniature Monday: Chaos terrain

Finally put myself together and painted this old Chaos terrain piece up. Did a lot with the airbrush, and it really speeds up the process with these large terrain pieces.

I really like this terrain piece and have thought long about painting it up and use the airbrush to do some glowing effects. I might have gone over the top a little but I think it will look quite cool on the battlefield.

Hobby Update: Terrain and more

Been doing a lot of work on my terrain lately, much of the terrain I had looked okey to begin with but wanted it to me more unified and look better together, especially for playing games for AoS.

That and the time I spent on painting my Stormcast Eternals have all taken my hobby time lately (accept some AoS games, Imperial Assault and Descent)

So here we are, will bring you an Stormcast Eternal update, next part of my AoS starter review and hopefully some more fully painted figs to show you all in the near future.

Just filling one of my quarters of the board with the latest terrain Iv'e finished.

A citadel wood, not finished, quite a lot of stuff to be done. Among them all the skulls and the the leafs, but looks really good already I think.

The large hill in the background and the smaller one in the foreground is an old Citadel kit, witch is quite nice, but's it's just grass and rocks basically. Adding the dirts and adding some other grass colors matching your board makes a lot! Looks really nice now.

Old Citadel trees, just out them on a base so they don't fell off all the time.

Some old terrain from Ziterdes, just added some additional sand/dirt and switched out some trees and added some darker grass. Nice stuff, might need some work but works out fine as it is right now.

All the terrain I have been doing lately (including the quarter of the board all is standing on). Also added on this pic is my little brothers old Chaos shrine/rock thingy. Just touched it up a little and it's good to go.

Terrain Tuesday: Mantic Battlezones Ruined Buildings

I did these a while ago, using the vallejo airbrush rust and chipping technique. I'm pleased with how they turned out even If I need some more practice. It does give me the look I want though and works really well with the ruined buildings from Mantic Games.

Also shown here are some Imperial Trenchers from Warzone: Resurrection. just to give some more life into the pictures (I try this some now and then). More terrain stuff soon!

WIP Wednesday: Manticore and terrain

I have plenty of different painting projects laying around which I have just started on, but for today I wanted to show you these.

First up is a Manticore for Warriors of Chaos. I wanted to try out my airbrush a bit more so I just started on this one and to see what I could do. I think I'm done with the airbrush on this model now but I'm very pleased with how the colors looks, it might not look all to natural with the HLs and stuff but these are magical bests of Chaos so I just wanted some cool colors and smooth transitions.

I stayed with the blue theme of my Chaos army but also blended in some turquoise to make it stand out.

When I was done I noticed his right ear was missing :S that's why it does not have any colors at all at the moment.
And I also wanted to show you some new terrain as well. I'm currently working hard on making a nice game board for my Warzone miniatures, (and that can work for other sci fi games as well) and here's some terrain using 40k and Deadzone scenery and barbed wire.

Currently painting them up as well and I like how they are turning out. I also have some finished terrain from the Deadzone Battlezones which I will show the coming days.

Tutorial: How to make concrete barricades

Obviously I had one main ingredient in this tutorial and that is the actual barricades themselves. In this tutorial I use left over resin from Prodos Games Warzone: Resurrection kits, and I have a lot so I thought I wanted to do something useful it. I know you get similar left overs from Forge World and what not so that might work as well (although my FW kits have smaller "left overs")

Anyway on to the actual tutorial.

Here's how the raw material looks, the block I use as the actual barricades. I then cut off some here and there to make some "battle damage" and those left overs I use for rubble to place on the base. The 'bases' is from a normal thin tree based board (sorry don't know the English name for this) which I cut into these shapes. (don't mind the green 'stuff' on one of them, that was just some left overs for another project)

I put on some PVA and sand the base, I also glue on some rubble here and there.

I use these to make trees and plants on these bases, this is because I want to have a jungle theme on these (for my Warzone: Resurrection Venusian Jungle board ). I bought them out of eBay so don't now what they are for, but probably some kind of plastic plants for aquariums or something similar. I did repaint the middle one and washed the others.

I also added a oil barrel from an old Wh40k terrain kit. Then I starter to paint. First I primed them black and then I airbrushed the barricades with Vallejo Air Concrete (71.131)

I then airbush on Citadel Skrag Brown on the dirt areas. I made another tutorial on how I painted the barrels go and check that out here if your'e interested.

I then make one highlight on the dirt with a mixture of Citadel Longbeard Grey, Citadel Zamnesi Desert some and Skrag Brown. For the concrete I made a highlight with a light grey color, in this case Warpaints Ash Grey.

If you don't want any grass, bushes or trees you can stop here and just add anything you like really. As I wrote earlier though I go with a jungle theme so I will add some vegetation.

So last and final step, some trees and plant I had lying around. I repainted them to make them fit better with the rest and I added some static grass and green clump foliage (these are from Gale Force Nine) and for last some Jungle Tufts and Highland Tufts from Army Painter.

That's it, quite happy with how it turned out in the end and didn't take to long to make. Hope this tutorial may prove to be useful for some of you out there. Cheers!

Tutorial: Making a Army Display Board Part: 2

Now it begins to actually look like something and I think it looks quite nice now when it's done. And it looks really nice on the shelf with some miniatures on top of it, much nicer than just having the minis right on shelf by themselves. It's a little time consuming when making these boards but it's well worth it. Now I really would like to do a snowy one for my snow based armies.

Anyway, here's the rest of the tutorial.

Here's it starts to look like something. After I sprayed the cliffs black in Part 1 and has dried I sprayed the cliffs with an old GW spray called Shadow Gray. You can also use a GW Spray Gun or similar or other brands of grey sprays, be careful not to melt the polystyrene to much though. Then I painted the surface of the ground with a brown colour (the large one from Citadel Scenery painting pack). Use a lot of water and you don't need to use to much paint.

Next up is to drybrush both the ground and the cliffs. For the ground I used Ochre from the Scenery Painting Pack and for the cliffs I first used Adeptus Battlegrey on the recesses where the spray paint didn't got in. I then dry brushed the whole cliffside with Astronomican Grey. Then I need the make some grass I first used used the grass from the Citadel Scenery Painting Pack which is kind of a dark, burnt grass. Then When dried took some glue on top of the grass and used a greener grass to get the result as shown on the fourth picture here. There you can also see that I've used some moss and clump foliage for shrubs and bushes as well as flock on some of the hillsides to make it look like moss.

And here is the final result! Looks quite nice if I may say so, added more bushes, grass some undergrowth painted some of the larger stones on the ground and so on. I'm really satisfied and with an army on as you can see below it looks even better. Much cooler to have on the shelf than just some a lot of miniatures everywhere.
