Miniature Monday: Space Marine Land Raider

First 40k model showed on this blog for ages it feels. And well this one isn't completely new, I painted this one in 2010 (!?). I never went up on the blog it seems though as I never got a really good picture of it.

Well I did some repainting and foremost did a lot of weathering on it, adding a lot of weathering powders (I used Kromlech Dark Dirt and Soot Black) and some Citadel Typhus Corrosion.

And below is the result, it looks more authentic now and a LOT dirtier. Might do some more changes to it, but this will have to do for now. Will actually do some more Wh40 stuff, but mostly repaints like this one for my Guardians of the Covenant as I got a little morale boost for this army when the author of 'The Dark Fortress' (a Dark Angel fansite) asked if he could put my pictures up on his site, which I gladly accepted of course. Check that the page with my GotC stuff here.

Guardians of the Covenant: Deathwing Knight finished

So at last a new post on here, been a while since the last but I promise you I have been painting, building and converting a lot lately so I will increase the pace of posts in the future. First up is the first of my Deathwing Knights in GotC colours, or whatever they should be called as they aren't the actual Deathwing. Quite pleased with how he turned out and I think the full unit painted and finished will look really nice. As always C & C is very welcome, as are suggestions on what to call GotC version of Deathwing Knights.

Guardians of the Covenant Progress

I'm afraid I have been lacking in the painting updates lately and that's because I haven't really finished anything yet. Also on Friday I got some major reinforcements for my GotC with my Waylandgames order finally arriving.

The strange part is my order from GW also arrived that day along with the latest White Dwarf. So I have had a lot of cool stuff to play with in the weekend but unfortunately not as much time, as we parents seldom have.

But I managed to do some stuff at least, building together the Deathwing Knights, started to build the Seraphim Fighter/Dark Talon (don't know which version I want, may try to magnatize or something). Of course I have also read the DA codex and thus far I really like it, a lot of options now compared to the old really restrictive codex. I have also read the new WD and I like the new WoC stuff. I have even made a new order with much of the WoC stuff, even though they are expensive as h**l. So no more GW stuff after that, at least until summer (except maybe some FW/WH Forge stuff)

Just assembled the Deathwing Knights and started to paint one of them up.

WIP photos of my Duriel (Belial Count as with Stormbolter and Sword of Silance) and a Assault Cannon Terminator

Tested out a new way of painting Power Swords, what do you think?
So at the moment I will be concentrating on GotC and WoC when the new stuff arrives, also in between I will do some Empire stuff like paint and convert those Knights. So expect more painting in the future as I have a crap lot to paint up :)

Guardians of the Covenant: Rhino finished

And the re painting session continues. I don't know why it takes so much longer than I had expected though. It feels like when I finish something on a model which looked fine from the start I must continue and "upgrade" that model more and more. And it almost takes as long as to paint the whole thing up from scratch.

Well not really but it feels like that, at least with the latest model I re painted and that's a Rhino for the Tac squad I finished last time. And I have re painted this one quite extensively with re doing the red on hull, a lot more highlights, battle damage, some minor weathering work, scrolls etc. I'm very pleased with how it turned out in the end though and that's what matters. If you want to compare with the old one look if it was worth or not you can check out the old version here.

Guardians of the Covenant: New look Tac squad finished!

Hi there, as I have said in previous posts I'm in the works of repainting my GotC models, because I didn't really like how they look. Something was missing and I found out what. I needed some Dark Angel green in there, to make them look more similar to their parent chapter as well as break up the colours from the metal and the red.

So this is how I will paint them. Metal and green backpacks, the chest crests in green (DA green then Warpstone Glow and finally Warpstone glow and some added white), green eye lenses and the original DA 5th Company knee pad. In my opinion this looks a lot better, especially on the robed marines where I thought they got too red in the colour scheme I used before.

Other than this I also updated some of the colours, so extra highlights, some tidying up, added some more basing materials etc. Well I'm really happy with the new look and now I'm really psyched at continuing painting these Unforgiven up. And soon they will get some reinforcements in the form of 2 boxes of Deathwing Command, 1 Ravenwing Command and a Dark Talon. So expect more 40k and more Guardians  of the Covenant in the near future.

Guardians of the Covenant Revived

The new Dark Angel Codex is soon upon us and as a DA player... or at least collector/painter I needed to set my mind on what I want to do. Continue on the GotC, start to paint up more Deathwing or even start another DA Successor chapter like Angels of Redemption or Absolution. And I finally I decided to continue on my GotC, but I needed something new as I didn't like the look of the ones I have previously painted.

I decided I needed one more colour for them, I decided to go with DA green as I need something more to tie them in with their parent chapter. I also think this was needed to give them a spot colour, before it was too much red and metal, it needed something more. So here's the first models I re-painted and well... just tell me what you think. All suggestions and ideas are very welcome.

First up is my Terminator Sergeant, just changed the aquila on the chest and the shield on his left shoulder. The blue Power Sword was an older remake and I'm still unsure of what colour I want on my Power Weapons, red, blue, green, metallic... I dunno. I also did some touch ups on the base to get some more colour. Please tell me what you think. Here's the old version.

I also did a Power Armour guy, one with robes that isn't totally finished yet and this one without robes. I think you get most out of the robed marines as I thought there was to much red and needed something else to break it out. But I also think that the un-robed marines look better with some DA green added into the mix. First three are in the new colours and the last one is on a finished unit of Marines in just reds and metallic.

So, finally got my GotC mojo back which is nice, now I won't need to repaint everything into Deathwing or some other DA chapter. Some re-painting is needed though and I all the help I can get from you guys with suggestions and ideas is more than welcome. So bring it on!

Looking back at 2012 and the future

So another year has soon went by and an quite eventful year in hobby as well. With an new edition of Wh40k, a new edition for LOTR...ehm I mean The Hobbit and two Army books and one 40k Codex. Among them my main army The Empire. I wont go into details about this though, you know what has been released this year so I will focus on myself and what I have accomplished in the hobby this past year.

The main focus when It comes to painting this year was the revival of my Empire army which I started to repaint in the beginning of the year. I continued to paint it up and also add new things when the new Army Book arrived, and now near the end of this year the army actually starts to look like an army. I have also done some side projects like WoC, Wh40k, Zombies and more but mainly I have stayed focused on getting the Empire army finished (more of  less, the whole army will probably never be finished).

This is the things I have painted this year:

Empire
40 Halberdiers
17 Greatswords
4 Artillery pieces
1 Bsb on foot
5 Demigryph Knights
1 War Altar of Morr
1 General on a Griffon
1 Engineer
1 Black Rose Knight
1 Captain on a peg.

Repainted
40 Swordsmen
10 Crossbowmen
1 Cannon
3 Knights
5 Archers

Orcs & Goblins
7 Black Orcs
10 Nightgoblins

Warriors of Chaos
4 Warriors of Tzeentch
6 Khorne Marauders
4 Warhaunds
1 Hellcannon

Vampire Counts
20 Zombies

Minotaurs
5 Space Marines

Deathwing
2 Terminators

I have never had as little hobby time as I have had this year, but strange thing is that I think I have never had an as productive year as this one. This is probably because of the little time I have and want to make most of it, and also I think this blog has helped me a lot to stay motivated with all the nice comments I get. So thank you for that.

What about the future then? Well, I'm still going strong when it comes to the hobby and I'm still highly motivated. So hopefully I can even topple this year and paint up even more stuff in the coming year. And the next year I think I will paint more different stuff even if the main focus will stay with the Empire where I want to paint up the Celestial Hurricanum, more Demi chickens, more Knights, some characters and hopefully my Carmine Dragon. I also want to focus more on my WoC army and try to finish some more units, and I will also revive my Guardians of the Covenant again and buy some of the new shiny Dark Angel stuff when it arrives, I will probably dabble more into 40k as well as I also want to finish some more stuff for my Minotaurs.

So that's all for this year looking forward the next one and I hope you all will have a great and happy new year.

Cheers!

Painting: Guardians of the Covenant Terminator

Long title when it comes to the Guardians, anyway here's a dude I finished painting a while ago. But just finished the base for him so I decided to show it to here. Really focused on Fantasy stuff at the moment, but sometimes I really like to paint some Space Marines. Even thinking about making my own chapter. But until then here's some pictures of one of my Terminators with a Thunderhammer and Stormshield.

Mixed bag of Guardians of the Covenant

As I said in the last post I had some pics I haven't showed here, here's some individual models from various squads, hope you like them.

Space Marine with a Plasma Cannon (really hope DA gets plasma heavy in the next codex like they used to be, to many CC oriented armies in 40k atm in my opinion)

Next up is a Sergeant or DA vet, a guy with a melta gun and one with a flamer.

That's all for now, but have some more stuff to show you. Also I may get give my GotC some love in the future and paint some more. Right now there's much going on in Warhammer World so this may have to wait.

Guardians of the covenant - Land Rider

I looked through my older posts here and realised that I have some photos that is unpublished here on the blog. So first I wanted to show you some pictures of my GotC Land Rider, but the photos I had was really poor quality so took new ones. Sadly this new ones aren't great either, don´t know why but it seems my lighting reflects to much on the large flat surfaces of the tank or something. So this have to do, hope you like it took some time to paint. I also had some pictures of the interior before I assembled the hull, but have no idea where they are so that will have to wait until I find them again, if I ever do that.
