Merry X-mas and... I'm in Warhammer Visions!

Merry Christmas! Hope everyone is having a great day.

Because of my shitty personal life etc. my blogging and hobby time haven't been great lately.

But right when you need that extra boost to continue what you, BAAM you open latest issue (23) of Warhammer: Visions and there is one of your models in it. Thanks White Dwarf team, you got my hobby juices going again.

I know there's hundreds of models showcased each month, but I don't think I'm the only one dreaming of this since they first started painting miniature models. This is the second time I  have one of my models showcased in a GW publication, last time was in White Dwarf in 2013.

It's once again one of my Empire models, and this time my General on a Griffon. Not an favorite of mine, but there's at least some conversions and green stuffing done to it. Anyway, a really pleasant surprise to find, now I'm off to painting some more stuff again.

My Warriors of Chaos army - Last time on squares

This is sad and exciting at the same time, here are the last shots on my fully Warriors of Chaos before moving on to round and oval bases for Age of Sigmar.

It's sad because I have always loved how big blocks of troops looks, and I have to cut these up as I want to keep the actual terrain on the bases as much as possible.

But it's also exciting, I'm really digging AoS. I like the simple rules, the warscrolls and so on. If you don't? Well we all have different taste, but this is a resurrection for me and my closest friends who now actually want to get involved into the game and build their armies. This is the most important bit for me.

Also, as I rebasing my troops I will also touch up the paint jobs on some of them. Most of them look good as they are but some minor tweaks here and there as well as adding some extra details to the bases. Because now they are seen much more and often you get some extra room on the bases as well.

And before some of you yells, you don't need to rebase becasue you can use squares on AoS, as well as 8th, Ninth Age and whatever. You are totally right, I don't need to do it. But I will play much more AoS than 8th and I don't know If will ever play Ninth Age, or even KoW.

And while playing AoS on squares works fine, it does not look good aesthetically for me. And I think that all this jazz about measuring from the closest point of the model is just a transition phase, and we will see official base sizes on rounds and ovals in the future.

Also rounds have some advantages of squares in my mind. First, it frames individual models better. And second, a unit of five normal infantry for example didn't look like a full unit or take even an odd number like 7-8, 13-14, I hated when an rank wasn't complete. If you now field an unit of 13 models in a unit, it does look better and more like an full unit of models. It might be just me, but that's what I think. And third, you don't need to think about their poses so they can rank up. Love this.

Anyway, I'm slowly going to rebase these guys. So here's last pictures showing all of my painted WoC models on squares.

R.I.P Warhammer Fantasy.

News: Age of Sigmar in the next White Dwarf (pictures)

Nothing new really when it comes to pictures of models so far but hey, it's a life sign from Warhammer in White Dwarf.

Pics is from Captain Citadel over at this thread on Spikey Bits forum.

So...

Interersting bit, The lightning strikes, that is probably Sigmar who now is the Incarnate of Heavens and can shoot lightning and stuff. The rule of Chaos breaks, this probably tells us Chaos is not as dominant as it has been in Warhammer World. I think this is great, I'm a little tired of the world is going under soon doom and gloom ala Sauron of LOTR, they should still be a huge threat of course but not as prominent I think. The Age of Sigmar begins! Well, we all know it, not just really what it means. Hopefully more info soon.

Sadly not a lot of info about Age of Sigmar.... yet. Here's mostly of what has been and not so much what to come, but I think we will see a lot more of that in the next issue... and 4th of July is soon here.

Warhammer Fantasy on round bases - A test

As the title says, I wanted to try to see how some WHFB miniatures looks on rounds, easy as that. I took these miniatures because I think if Warhammer is going to round bases, this would be the right size for these. We have seen some bases from Games Day like some more oval ones for cavarly for example but I don't have nay of those so I made it easy and just tried some infantry on normal 25mm round bases. And here's the result.

First up is a Hammerer, this one probably looks the best on a round base. I can see a unit of these either as they are or on a movement tray for round bases a la LOTR. As an individual model, round bases do look better I think.

My Empire army belonging to the now blown up Ostermark (with the rest of the Warhammer World) will probably not be rebased to rounds. I will probably keep it as an classic WHFB army instead and make a new Empire army for Age of Sigmar. But I wanted to try a round on my BSB model anyway. It's actually feels more stable (the torso and up is metal).

Last model, an really old Empire plastic Halberdier. The round bases does not look as good on static posed models I think, much better on more dynamic poses. Still looks nice though, not a huge difference.

All in all I like the look of rounds, but that's for pure aesthetics, let's see how the rules and what not is in store for us.

The Age of Sigmar is coming!

Winter is com... eh wait Age of Sigmar is coming! Yeah I know not the best teaser video I've seen but hey it's an official statement showing us that Warhammer is still alive! In some kind or another anyway.

I have been really quiet about this here on the blog, because there have just been to many different rumors out there and no official word whatsoever since we read the last 'End Times' book Archaon that the Warhammer World is no more. Since then I have checked out the rumors going on alongside all the wish listing but I just couldn't imagine what was true and really in what direction Warhammer is going.

I still wont speculate what Age of Sigmar is, some say it's the next starter set for 9th ed Warhammer, some rumors say it's a standalone boardgame type of game like Space Hulk or the latest Execution Force. Whatever it is I will buy it, non the less. Many people is giving up on Warhammer Fantasy because of the End Times, rumors of 9th being a skirmish game, going to round bases etc. But i won't give up on Warhammer just yet, it was my gateway into war gaming and this lovely hobby and even though I loved the setting, I also understand why some think a total reset was necessary.

So went from angry and sad because the world and setting I loved was no more to getting quite excited to see in what direction Warhammer is going and how the new models will look. I still have my old models, and they aren't going anywhere. Heck I can still play 8th ed If I find some other who also want to play Warhammer "Classic" instead of this new game.

But I'm more eager to see how the new game, the new models and world is. Sometimes a fresh start is quite freshening, even on round bases....

Hope to see more teasers, reliable rumors or even pictures on what is coming for Warhammer Fantasy really soon!

WIP Wednesday: Manticore and terrain

I have plenty of different painting projects laying around which I have just started on, but for today I wanted to show you these.

First up is a Manticore for Warriors of Chaos. I wanted to try out my airbrush a bit more so I just started on this one and to see what I could do. I think I'm done with the airbrush on this model now but I'm very pleased with how the colors looks, it might not look all to natural with the HLs and stuff but these are magical bests of Chaos so I just wanted some cool colors and smooth transitions.

I stayed with the blue theme of my Chaos army but also blended in some turquoise to make it stand out.

When I was done I noticed his right ear was missing :S that's why it does not have any colors at all at the moment.
And I also wanted to show you some new terrain as well. I'm currently working hard on making a nice game board for my Warzone miniatures, (and that can work for other sci fi games as well) and here's some terrain using 40k and Deadzone scenery and barbed wire.

Currently painting them up as well and I like how they are turning out. I also have some finished terrain from the Deadzone Battlezones which I will show the coming days.

News: End Times Archaon, Wrathmongers and Skullreapers from next WD

Pictures from the next issue of White Dwarf showing us the fifth End Times book Archaon, and also some new Khorne choices for Warriors of Chaos armies and Legions of Chaos armies. Khorne variants of the Blight Kings pretty much, I like them but would have rather seen something more different, and preferably something Tzeentch!!! Anyway here's the pics, and they are from the Plastic Krak blog

Miniature Monday: Dwarf Ironbreakers

Warhammer Fantasy time again, to be honest I have been a little put off when it comes to Warhammer lately. Mostly due the current rumors about 9th ed, not particular happy about maybe needing to re-base my armies when so much work have been put into many of them. Well we will see eventually how it turns out but I'm not fond of that particular rumor.

Anyway I'm painting some dwarfs among other things at the moment and I want to do an unit of twenty of my old metal Ironbreakers. I of course go with the painting scheme as the rest of the army (red and black and some white) but did something different with these guys shields.

Normally I go with black and red on the shields and paint the symbols and insignias in white. I did another variant on these though, inspired from I shield I got for my Ironbreaker in the Warhammer Quest game on the iPad. It fits nice with the rest of the army, and keeps with the grim and dark look I'm going for. So far I have finished nine of them but the rest is in the works.

As always comments are much welcome.

News & Rumours: Verminlord and info sighted!

So next End times book is about mainly Skaven and the coming of the Horned Rat. So what will be be seing as models to accompany this? Vermin Lords of course and they will probably be a lot better in-game than the previous versions.

Translated info taken from Faet 212:

All 5 Verminlords have a 5+ ward and 6 wounds

Deceiver 500pt, must take skitterleap but rerolls cast attempts, -1 to shoot at, has shooting attack

Corruptor 500 pt, must take plague but rerolls cast attempts, paired weapon with asf

Warbringer 550 pt, must take death frenzy but rerolls attempts, paired weapon with doomglaive d3 wound

Warpseer 500 pt, must take warp lightning but rerolls attempts, +1 ward save while he has his orb, orb is a thrown weapon that is a template

Lord Skreetch Verminking is 650, always has 13th and rerolls casting attempts, has 2 weapons 1 asf 1 doomglaive chooses each turn

Stats for all of them vary slightly

There are also a few passages in the WD hinting at Grey Seers summoning Vermin Lords...

The Verminlords kit looks like it is on a square base possibly? Very hard to tell.

Since the Verminlords doesn't choose his plague spell I can take a plague priest and double up on Plague. Nice!

There is also a one page article on "the risk of summoning" vermin lords, and a story when Thanquol tried to summon one & summoned Skarbrand

Video Unboxing: Warhammer Fantasy - The Glottkin

Yeah it finally happened, my first ever Youtube video and first Video unboxing. Altough this first video is really simple and just made using Youtube (and some GIMP for photo editing) it was really fun. Sure I sound awful but I think this format is better suited for some unboxings and other stuff. So expect some more of these, hopefully better though. Please tell me what you think in the comments below.

Miniature Monday: Nurgle Daemon unitfiller

So a really fast one this time, this is a unitfiller for my Plaguebearers. Iv'e had this model for quite some not sure what to use it as. But finally decided for this. It could work nice a a Putrid Blightking as well. The model is from a company called Kromlech and is a really nice sculpt and fun to paint up as well. Hope you like it.

Miniature Monday: Empire Crossbowmen

I'm painting a lot of different stuff right now and among them are some backlog projects for my Empire army. Like this Crossbowmen unit, it needed one more model and some touch ups on the rest to make them look nice with the rest of the army. So I did and a magnatized unit tray as well so here's the result.

A nice unit tray makes the whole unit look much better, and a lot easier to move around when you play.

Still love to paint my Empire in Ostermark colors.

The last dude had to stand a little taller because the unit is hard to rank up otherwise.

Have some more backlog projects for my Empire, next up is a Handgunners unit. My Hurricanum and try to finish my Greatswords unit and Knights of the Black Rose unit.

Miniature Monday: Empire Celestial Hurricanum WIP

It's short Mini Monday today, have several projects in the pipeline at the moment and one of them is to finally finish painting my Celestial Hurricanum. It's have taken some work I can tell you, I have built,  converted and painted a model much similar (my War Altar of Morr) and there's just so much stuff going on and so much stuff that need paint it takes forever and it's driving me crazy!

Well you have to do some parts at a time to make it easier, but it's just so many parts! I have now painted mostly of the main chassis but still some interior and other stuff to do. The horses are mostly done but need some more paint as well. My goal is to finish the horses, the base and the main chassi and focus on the swirling planets and what not and the crew after this.

I'm sure it will look great when it's finished, at least that is what I'm going for... but damn it takes a lot of time to paint up. Will probably never do an Luminark because I don't want to paint one more of these wagons (might change my mind if they are totally OP next ed :P ).

Warriors of Chaos: Rare Choices

There's a lot of Rare choices in the Warriors of Chaos army, and a lot of different types as well. I have just completed a few of them so far, but more will come in the future. I have a Shaggoth, another Hellcannon and a Chaos Giant as some of the future projects for my WoC army.

But here's what Iv'e finished so far.

Mutalith Vortex Beast
I had to start with this guy, I really love the model and it's probably one of the best paint jobs Iv'e done as well so I quite proud of him. Took forever to paint up but was also really fun to paint. I actually followed GW's Painting Guide for the iPad when I did the colors for him so If you want to do something similar try download that. For more pics, go here.

Skullcrushers
Often considered one of the best units in the game, of course I needed to paint some of them up. I did them in the blue colors as the rest of my army. I don't want an full blue army anymore so I will change it, still don't really know how though and it pains me that I have to redo them as I think the actual paint job is nice, just the wrong colors. I will probably go with black instead of the blue and do some more red, maybe continue on the lava/magma thing I have going on on the weapons. For pictures showing the old blue color scheme go here.

Hellcannon
This piece is a classic by now. Many do convert other models to represent the Hellcannon but I think it looks so good on it's own it's a shame not paint at least one of them up. I own two of them and both av them are in Finecast and is much easier to assemble than the old metal ones. The paint job is inspired by the Eavy Metal team who did a new paint job when they released the Finecast version, when I saw it I knew I had to get one and do a similar color scheme, I'm very pleased with how it turned out in the end. Took a long time to finish though. More pictures can be found here.

Chaos Spawn
I have plenty of the spawns on the to do list (mostly because I have the models) but I finished this old classic metal model first as it where painted but not finished for quite some time. I like the old model even if you get a lot more diversity in the new plastic kit. The paint job is not special really but it looks okey in my opinion. More pictures can be found here.
